What “Cardiac Arrest” Means

The "Encyclopedia"

TMZ.com was quick to report Michael Jackson’s condition shortly after receiving news of his cardiac arrest in his rented home at Hombly Hills in Los Angeles. You can find it here: Michael Jackson – Cardiac Arrest

The first thing that comes to our head when we read the headline is – It’s a Heart Attack. But more than meets the eye it seems.

“I was an ER nurse for 35 years. I have never seen a patient brought in with CPR in route who survived with any quality of life.”

- flower on TMZ.com

“Only 15% of people survive cardiac arrest OUTSIDE of the hospital. When the heart stops beating, you have 6 minutes to get it back to beating. Takes an average of 10 minutes to get an ambulance. Most households don’t know how to perform CPR…”

- Surgeon55 on TMZ.com

I guess this is quite descriptive of the gravity of the situation. A cardiac arrest is not something trivial or in most cases, “survived”.

But before the reports from the doctors were conclusive, before the news was reported, other things drifted into the heads of some people… these people I found to be more out of this world than Michael Jackson himself.

I won’t type it out here. To preserve the integrity of these comments, I have done print screens instead.

On “Michael Jackson – Cardiac Arrest”,

He was picked up at his home around 20 minutes ago — we’re told his mother is on the way to visit him.

UPDATE: The 911 call came in at 12:21PM at his Holmby Hills home in L.A.

UPDATE: A Jackson family member tells TMZ Michael is in “really bad shape” and the brothers are headed to UCLA.

UPDATE: We just got off the phone with Joe Jackson, Michael’s dad, who says “he is not doing well.”

There are 10 comments to the page, but I only managed to capture the top 6 – which happened to contain most of the lashing comments. On the next page, the people leaving comments did not grow sympathetic, and the quality of the comments were top-notch heartless, even after a plead to have a heart [#18 by Swelter]:

Less kindness than the number of criticisms of a man who is dying of a heart attack at a hospital.

Exactly what kind of society are we living in?

Perhaps Harriet and Giovi said it well:

“I am not much of a Michael fan, however, jokes about something like this are disgusting. Shame on all of you who find this funny. Your values are scrambled.”

- Harriet

“I can’t believe you all are making jokes about him at a time like this. Shame on you.
You don’t have to like him, that’s fine.

But, don’t joke about someone who is in a serious condition in the hospital.

Geez. Insensitive bastards.”

-Giovi

Rest in peace, Michael.

It’s too late. But I am SORRY, Michael Jackson!

My husband was watching the news, something that I don’t do on a regular basis, and he casually asked – Why is Michael Jackson so famous? Is it because he dances so well?
I attempted to explain: I’ll say 3 things. First of all, he’s really talented in music and dance, and he’s been performing since [...]
